In the early 1930's, the University of Chicago investigated the possibility of invisibility through the use of electricity. A coarse ice would last minutes to hours and was damaging psychologically, but did not cause madness. A man would only come out of the ice if other crewmembers laid their hands upon him to give him strength. Unfortunately, in one instance of the "Laying of Hands," two men who attempted to lay hands upon the man burst into flames and burned for eighteen days (The Philadelphia Experiment, 44).
